About Us

Dear Members and Friends of Christians Supporting Community Organizing,

We look forward to seeing you again at the Annual Meeting of Christians Supporting Community Organizing.  This year’s meeting will be October 16-17, 2011.  We will be meeting at the Benedict Inn Retreat & Conference Center (www.benedictinn.org) 1402 Southern Avenue, Beech Grove, IN (just south of Indianapolis).  We will begin at 4:00 on Sunday, October 16 and conclude with dinner at 6:00 on Monday, October 17.

The speaker this year for our public lecture on Sunday, 7:00 p.m., is Dennis Nordmoe, Ph.D., Executive Director of Urban Neighborhood Initiatives in Detroit. Dennis will be addressing the relationship of community organizing and community development when the goal is changes at the community level.  We are looking for a respondent who also is aware of the potential strengths and dangers within the relationship.

On Monday morning, we will continue the discussion of the lecture.  Also on Monday we will share on our own involvements, discuss how to expand our outreach and organizational connections, and plan the next steps for our successful program of reaching Evangelical, Holiness, and Pentecostal (EPH) college students via incentive awards for their involvement in community organizing (see the attached milestones).

We are meeting in the Indiana area so that some of us can provide a CSCO presence with an exhibit at the annual meeting of the Christian Community Development Association, which meets in Indianapolis preceding our meeting.  We will also identify at our meeting other appropriate EPH organizations at which to have a presence and welcome your suggestions of such groups.  We also welcome suggestions for our still expanding website (www.cscoweb.org).

Our Annual Meeting is a refreshing opportunity to share fellowship, encourage one another, engage in worship, and to spend time evaluating, strategizing, and discussing new aspects of community organizing and the recruitment of EPH leaders and churches into faith based community organizing.

Enclosed is a CSCO registration form which should be in Dick Righter’s hands by September 30.  As noted on it, scholarship help is available.  Also enclosed is a summary of some of our milestones for this past year.  Directions will come to registrants.

Now also is time for membership and contributions.  You may use the registration form for this purpose even if you are unable to attend.  Your contribution will help us expand our work.  Please set apart a few days this October to support each other in our important and unique mission.

Sincerely yours,
Your 2010-2011 Leadership Team: Susanne Johnson, Stephen Mott, Dennis Nordmoe, Dick Righter, Wally Tilleman
