ANNOUNCEMENT
Five hundred dollar awards for Christian college groups who
involve themselves in Community Organizing – A program of Christians
Supporting Community Organizing: www.cscoweb.org
Any recognized Christian organization at any North American
college or university may apply. The
organization writes a proposal and, if accepted, follows through on their
proposal and writes it up when completed. When the final write-up has been
received, a five hundred dollar check will be sent to the organization to use as
they see fit. Five awards will be
given out annually. The purpose of this program is to encourage Christian
students to become involved in justice and community issues through community
organizing.
PURPOSE: To introduce Christian college students to
community organizing as a Christian activity.
WHO MAY APPLY: Any group of Christian students at a college
or university in North America. The
group must be recognized as a club or campus student group, or could be a
subgroup of a recognized group. All
award checks will be made out to the recognized group.
THE PROGRAM: Interested students are encouraged to study
the CSCO website to learn what community organizing is and to read reports of
what other students have done. It will be necessary to connect with one of the
professional community organizing groups and become involved in one of their
projects. They can be located on
CSCO website. Note link on the home page: "How do I find a community
organization?" Although you will
work through a local community organization, your group’s faculty advisor
needs to be aware of what you are doing. Once you have decided in what project
you will be involved, write it up and send it to CSCO for approval.
Up to five projects by five different groups can be approved annually.
Once you have finished your approved project, do a final write up, which
you will send to CSCO. CSCO will
then send the award check to your organization.
We may also post your report on our website.
